Narrative

Young Himba girls in northern Namibia and southern Angola wear Ozondato —two forward‑facing plaits. Coated with otjize, a red paste of butterfat and ochre, the braids mark age, family ties, and social place. This ink portrait captures the hairstyle as a cultural marker — hair as heritage, identity, and everyday tradition.
