Narrative
LOOM X is the second work in the Bank of Ghana commission — a surreal, minimalist dialogue between heritage and innovation. A woman steps forward from a Kente loom, her gown cascading behind her in long, fluid folds. Seated directly behind her at the loom is a young man, weaving the very fabric she wears. Instead of a traditional shuttle, he guides the threads with a game controller, turning digital motion into cloth.
The scene reframes craft as collaboration across generations and tools, suggesting that culture is continually rewoven through new hands and new technologies.
Rendered with clarity and restraint, LOOM X reflects Nkwaye’s fascination with process — how identity, technology, and ancestral practice can intersect in a single, quietly radical moment.
