Narrative
Liberian captures a quiet, self contained moment: a profile rendered with warm, luminous skin tones set against a field of crisp pen drawn geometry. Inspired by a Liberian hairstyle, the work explores how braided texture, shaved lines, and sculpted form interact with the precision of ink. The artist uses the face as a site of contrast — softness meeting structure, watercolour glow meeting the discipline of pen.
Created around the same period as Osun and other mixed media experiments, the piece reflects a growing curiosity about how identity, pattern, and technique can coexist without competing.
Liberian becomes a study in balance: cultural reference, intimate portraiture, and the tactile pleasure of seeing skin, line, and light speak to one another.
