l00K

l00K began as a creative experiment: asking AI to imagine a USD 100,000 contemporary watercolour by an African artist. Nkwaye then took the generated composition and gave it his own twist.

The work moves between portraiture, anatomy and abstraction. A fragmented face meets a strangely positioned hand, creating a surreal moment where form, gesture and identity seem slightly out of place. Fine penwork, loose anatomical lines, geometric patterns and bursts of yellow come together with the bold texture of African fabric.

The title plays on both “100K” and the act of looking — encouraging us to look again, and see the image a little differently each time.
