KNOTE

KNOTE

H2O COLOUR

Narrative

Commissioned as the first artwork welcoming guests into the Bank of Ghana’s headquarters; I studied banknotes from BOGs website and mint-condition old money I had collected.

Thrilled to create a noteworthy piece for no other than the august Bank of Ghana, I set out to compose a conceptual Cedi banknote. A daunting task from research of components to artistry, I pieced together hundreds of references that would form a collage of our abundant resources, skilled professionals and show some industrial transformation. The collage patches together a score of characters, motifs, and hopeful scenes through intricate graphic penmanship, vibrant watercolour that could pass as a security feature, code of a note and a dab of metallic paint. Each component carries symbolic weight in some essential industry, sport, culture, or the people.

My first work of such monumental scale, size and public audience. The opportunity demanded a vision most could appreciate; artistic skill with precision and trust in my sincere vision.

KNOTE stands as a conversation piece for people who pass by it every day, but will take years to fully comprehend.
