Narrative
KARIYA in Hausa is protection or shelter. Rooted in the word kare, protect, the son is lucky when majibinci, the protector and father teaches him how to navigate this world. Learning how to ride a bicycle has all the vital elements to illustrate such a moment. The child learns to steer, balance, pedal, move forward, and stop before you can let go. Scenes like kariya resonate well with me as a father of 3 sons.
