Narrative
Asaase Yaa presents the Thursday born Akan earth goddess seated in quiet majesty, her presence embodying fertility, abundance, and the generative force of life.
The painting’s monumental scale — 150 by 300 cm — demanded an unusual physical approach. Because the artist could not stretch 150 cm across the paper to reach the upper section, he painted the top portion upside down, working from the middle upward. This inversion adds a subtle tension to the composition, a sense of the goddess emerging through both effort and devotion.
Layered watercolour washes, controlled detailing, and earth toned luminosity build a throne that feels both symbolic and organic.
Asaase Yaa becomes a tribute to creation itself — a mother of humanity rendered through scale, endurance, and reverence.
